This is Rudolph! I've made him for the daughter of a friend of mine. The scarf wasn't part of the pattern, but I thought he had to have that as well (-: For her newborn brother I'm making a blanket. I hope to finish that one before the weekend is over, so I can post it soon. I hope they'll like it!

Amigurumis

The website from Christel Krukkert was already on my list with favorite sites, but now a favourite book can be added to my book shelve. This book with 10 patterns of lovely amigurumis is available here. For those of you who want to try something else: try making amigurumis with Hoooked Zpagetti (t-shirt yarn).
If you are looking for a nice forum, try the Amigurumi Forum of Liques Handmade. It's a new forum about crochet in general and amigurumis.

Granny Square Cushion

At the moment I am obsessed by the classic granny square. There are so many possibilities, I am nog even half way a square when I have thought about the next square that I want to make. As far as the granny square goes it is totally the way it should be. As you can probably see, the only thing that went wrong is the size of it. But hey, not everything can go right and I'll work this out somehow. If you want to make granny squares but don't know how to make them, click here for a pattern and a photo tutorial.

Horseriding

This week is a week that is over before I've gotten used to it. A lot of work, hard work and in the meantime also a lot of fun things to do besides working. Like the ride outside on my favourite horse. A beautiful evening without wind, a lovely sunset and a thick fog over the meadows. It looked like a movie. And then there was last night. Another lovely evening on which my boyfriend and I decided to enjoy the lovely weather by having diner on a terrace in the town centre. And then there was today. My new stock of wool was delivered so I can start finishing my projects. I have a lot of things that I need to finish, and fortunately I've also discovered a few lovely sites where I can find enough inspiration for future projects. This is one of them. There are a few lovely tutorials on that blog so you should definitely go over and take a look.

Trots - Proud

Do you ever have that? That you've made something that you're just a little bit prouder of then all the other things you've made? That's what I have with this blanket (-: Perhaps it is because I've made every square of this blanket with so much joy. I saw this throw grow and it became exactly the way I hoped it would be. This throw is approximately 75 x 130 cm. Proud as I am (-: I've made some more pictures of it. You can find them in my Flickr-album.

Granny Square Pillow

This afternoon I've crocheted the back while sitting in the sun. Now it's on to the next project!

Bloemen square - Flower square

I really like to create new granny squares without using a pattern. Although every granny you can think of probably has been made already, still it is nice to think about it yourself. This granny came to life because I wanted a flower in the centre. I've tried a few things and in the end this was the result. I didn't write down the pattern, but if anyone is interested let me know. Maybe I'll write it down in the next few days then.

Een nieuw begin? - A new beginning?

The holiday is over! We're home again after a long and exhausting journey and actually being at home is also really nice again. Besides, a really exciting time is coming up! My house is for sale right now and so is the house of R. (my boyfriend). After a lot of years together we are finally about to buy a house together and make it our own happy place. That is if our houses sell in these difficult times. However, an exciting new time asks for a new granny square! (-: I made this one during my holiday. As you can see it's just a traditional square, but the colours are arranged in a bit of a different way.

Sunday, September 5, 2010

This was the weather in Tuscany during the last week and a half (-: Nothing but blue sky. Now and then a cloud, but that was it. Tomorrow we will start the trip back to Holland. We've really had a terrific holiday! Do you want to know where we were? Click here if you do. I can really recommend this place!

Sneak preview

Since my last post I have been working on a new project. This picture is a sneak preview! I hope to have it finished as soon as I get back in Holland.
Now, I've noticed there were some questions in the comments under my last posts, so I'll answer them right now.
First of all, the mosaic picture of the French Alpes was made with the help of BigHugeLabs.
Then I got the question how long it took me to make the blanket with the circles. I started about six weeks ago, but ofcourse I wasn't able to crochet non-stop.
About the size of the blanket: I cannot take its measures here, but I will let you know how big it is as soon as I get back home.
If I'm working on multiple blankets at the same time? Yes, most of the time I am.
Well, I think those were all the questions for now. If anyone has more questions, please let me know!

Af! - Finished!

And it is finished! My granny square blanket didn't become as big as I planned, but it has exactly the right size to lay under as soon as winter is back again. But it isn't winter here for sure. We've been enjoying the view and 30 degrees for the last couple of days. By the way, I've just read all comments on my previous posts of the last days. Thanks so much for all your lovely comments!

Haken op vakantie - Crochet on holiday

The picture on top was made while we were resting from the long journey on a French parking-lot. We've almost reached the Italian holiday cottage that we've rented for the next two weeks. On the picture below you see a little impression of what we've seen on the way over here. For those who want to know where we were exactly, the pictures were made while we were driving part of La Route des Grandes Alpes in the north west of France.

Award!

While I was on my way to Italy (and still am), I got two extra special messages. One of Grietjekarwietje and one of Clara's Crochet Room. They both gave me The Versatile Blogger Award and I am so happy with it! But, now that I've given an award to other blogs a few times and now that there are so many nice things in Blog-land, I've decided not to pass the award on. I hope you'll understand!
So with accepting this award I am supposed to mention at least five things about myself. Well, allright then. Here they are:

* I love cheesecake. Especially my mothers cheesecake is very nice!
* I love shopping and I especially love English shopping centres. I don't know why but everything seems nicer there. You can leave me there forever.
* Not very common for a girl, but it's the truth: I love nice cars and driving a motorbike. I do have a license for riding bikes.
* I get really angry when I'm very hungry. It's a lack-of-sugar kind of thing I guess.
* I would love to go to Lapland or America one day but now that I think flying is very scary, I'm not sure if it will ever happen.

Butterflies Giveaway

Goed nieuws!

Great news! I got permission to post the pattern of the heart in English and Dutch here on my blog. I will definitely do that one of these days, but now that I'll probably only have time fot that this weekend, I'll post another nice pattern here for now. I found it at the website of Little Birdie. The pattern is of the two butterflies on the picture. I've attached a safety pin on the back, so you can attach them to a bag, a headband or place them on your jacket. If you can't crochet but do like the butterflies, let me know. I'll send a pair of butterflies to you in a colour of choice if you are the first to let me know in a comment on this post that you are interested. Too late but still interested in a pair of butterflies? Let me know. Perhaps, if more people are interested, I do another Giveaway of this kind again soon.

Hartjes - Hearts

I love hearts. Especially crochet hearts. These hearts are made out of an existing pattern that I adjusted a little bit. Because it is not totally my pattern, I cannot place it here right now, but I'm working on getting the approval. Let me know if you would like to have the pattern, and I'll try even harder. (-:

Andere dingen te doen - Other things to do

Have you ever moved into a house that wasn't finished? Where you still had to paint a window frame, hang a lamp and paint the stairs to make it look perfect? Well, I did about a year ago. And the last two weeks we finally tried to finish all these things. That's why I haven't been crocheting a lot lately. But now everything is almost done, and I'm almost leaving to Italy for a two-week holiday! I'm really looking forward to that! I hope to show some of the things I'll be making soon on my blog again. In the meantime I hope you've enjoyed Link Your Stuff. Want to see all of them? Just click Link-Your-Stuff in the Labels-section in right sidebar and you can see all of the uploads of the last weeks. By the way, I did make some squares for the blanket that I'm working on. I'll show you tomorrow how I'm making progress with that!

Stylish Blogger Award and the Sockbunny

Today Carolien of Teveel Leuks gave me the Stylish Blogger Award. And ofcourse I am so happy with that! Besides that, earlier this week I got something else that I like very much. It is the Sockbunny that's on the picture and I got it from Caet's Blog. I was totally surprised, because I was too late for her Giveaway but even though she gave me one. I like it so much that her blog definitely deserves the award! Passing on a blog award is not easy, because there are so many lovely blogs. But I will mention a few that I think are extra special.

1. Caet's Blog with the beautiful Sockbunnies and the allways very lovely Giveaways!
2. Breiwerkjes van Lidia. Lidia makes truly outrageous clothes for Barbies. What I think is very special is that the profit is for charity. So go visit her blog and buy something! (-:
3. Not a blog, but lovely things: the Flick-page of my sister which is called Het Bovenhuis. Really lovely items made out of felt which you can order if you like them.
4. Dawn's blog, named Sewritzytitzy. Dawn doesn't only make lovely pictures, the also makes gorgeous crocheted things.
5. The blog of Matawi's Crea. She just opened her owns webstore so therefore she has a Giveaway untill the 1st of August. So hurry over to her site and enter the Giveaway!

When I asked this week to send me a picture if someone had one of my squares finished, I didn't expect to get a response so soon. Els has send me this picture of the lovely blanket she's made based on the granny squares of this pattern (only available in Dutch). I asked her to tell a bit more about the blanket, and this is what she wrote:

"Actually I didn't make the blanket for someone special (allthough one of our nieces is expecting a baby). I've allways been creative and originally I've learnt everything (except Bobbin Lace and Tatting). My mother allways started the day with half an hour of crochet, it was her meditation time. My bathroom is provided with a whole pile of her crochet towels, the garden table with a beautiful cloth, the marble bags of our sons are now washcloths, etc.
Furthermore, she could knit beautiful and above all she could sew things together in a lovely way, something that allways came in handy for me because she has allways put my projects together. It's really a shame that I was so "lazy", because she can't teach me anymore. She passed away 10 years ago.
My grandmothers were always busy as well. My paternal grandmother was a bit more modern: she had circular needles, I think before anyone had heard of them. She spun her own wool, embroidered tablecloths, crocheted handkerchiefs from old shirts (the back piece was a nice square) that got crocheted edges with some very fine yarn, flower embroidered and ready.
Off and on I'm knitting, crocheting, sewing, doing embroidery .... The past few years it was knitting socks (which you do not have to put together!) but since I saw your pillow of squares a week or two ago, I went looking for the crochet hooks of my mother.
I've made 112 squares in a very short time. I have to mention that I do not have a job outside the house. In the morning, I'm already up at 7 and I sit with coffee on our balcony with something to knit/crochet in my hands. And so there are many moments throughout the day that I can do something. I do not like to watch TV, it's turned off most of the time. I prefer crafting while listening to Classic FM.
For the blanket on the picture I used 56 squares, my daughter-in-law took the other 56. She has a mathematical talent and I wanted to try not to get doubles on the outer edges in the same row. I thought that would be a breeze, but no. She has thought about it and ... I will get her suggestion somewhere this week.
A do not have a website or blog, I have been thinking about that for some time but I'm afraid that I will spend to much time behind the PC."

Thanks you so much Els, I really enjoyed reading your story and I really love your blanket!

P.S.

Have you ever heard of the webshop PSIkhouvanjou (which is PSIlove you in Dutch)? It is one of my favourite webshops. You can buy very nice gifts and DIY's there, like the origami paper of the origami cranes of a few blog posts ago. When they send your order to you, they wrap it up in a gorgeous way. Een nieuwe deken - A new blanket?

Maybe you've already noticed that I started making granny squares again. The last time I made squares I didn't really like it because it took more time then I wanted to make something. But granny squares are so lovely! Ofcourse I cannot stop making them. So I decided to make a blanket that contains 247 squares. I want to make one square a day and crochet other things in the meantime as well. Therefore it will take some time untill the blanket is finished but I hope it's worth the effort!

Pannenlappen - Potholders

Ingrid, heel erg bedankt!

One of the blogs I love to read is the blog of Ingrid. Just recently I read this post, and I liked it so much that I left a comment on her blog to let her know that I was really interested in one of the potholders. Yesterday I received these lovely, mostly orange, potholders and I love them! They so fitted my mood after a fabulous day on which I went to see the Dutch Football Team standing at the Royal Palace in The Hague. With an orange crown on my head I waited for two hours to cheer for them only five minutes and I am so glad I did! Because no matter what the world press has to say, I think they did a great job by becoming second. So after that lovely day, Ingrid's gift was really the icing on the cake! Thanks so much Ingrid!

Danidou

Because I have two pregnant friends at the moment I started looking for a nice gift. There are so many nice things on the internet, but ofcourse I prefer to give something that is knitted or crochet. The most lovely site of all is the site of Danidou if you ask me. Everything you order there is especially made for you, so you can pick your own colours as well. I'm not sure if my friends read my blog, therefore I will not tell what I'm having made for them. Click here to visit the site of Danidou.

Laptophoes - Laptopcover

Isn't winning the World Championship Soccer 2010 amazing? Well, now that I live in The Netherlands I certainly hope we will! I've seen a lot of this World Championship, but in between watching the matches and all the fun that came with that, I finally got to crochet a laptopcover. I'm really happy with the result. Now let's hope we'll win the match this Sunday!

Stoffen - Fabrics!

Those who have read the beginning of my blog know that this blog started as a knitting blog. But over the last months I've developed an interest in so many crafts, that sometimes I'll show you things that don't have to do a lot with knitting. (For those of you who can't read Dutch, it's Annemarie's Knitting Blog.) Last week I found the website VanMarieke. She has a fabulous webshop with some really nice fabrics, but also the Do-It-Yourself-section is really great! You can make your own applique with the Iron On Velours that she sells. You should also check out the accessories on her site. She has some really nice magnets and pocketmirrors there!

Kermit

Did I ever tell you that I love Kermit the Frog? Probably not, because it doesn't have to do much with crochet or knitting. But if you ask me, I think that it is incredibly difficult to crochet something of Kermit and make it look like the real one. But Miss Modular did the impossible according to me. Take a look at her Flickr-album, especially her Sesame Street Collection. She's also starting an Etsy-shop, so keep an eye on that one because there will be fabulous things in it soon.

Mooie plaatjes - Nice pictures

Volgende week is het weer Link-Your-Stuff-Day.

And again a lot of lovely pictures were uploaded yesterday! Thanks so much everyone! I really love to end up on the most beautiful sites through these pictures. Next week there will be another Link-Your-Stuff-Day. I hope you'll be posting nice pictures again then!
In the meantime I started another project. Now that summer is on its best over here, the work on my blanket has stopped for some time because it really is too hot to have this huge thing on my knees while the sun is burning. I'll show you more about my latest project in my next post. Have a great Sunday everyone!

Isn't this a lovely bag? You can make it yourself! The pattern is in English, but if that's allright with you, you can find the pattern here.

Een gehaakte mand - A crochet basket

Just recently somebody asked me if I know how to crochet a basket. To be honest: I have no idea! But on this site you will find a very nice pattern. It's an English pattern. If you know where to find a pattern in Dutch, let me know because I think some people find that more comfortable.
