Granny Square Projects

I recently crocheted these two pillows and they have found a nice place on the chair in my garden shed. It fits so nicely in such a tiny wooden house. Meanwhile I am busy finishing a large granny square blanket. I always fasten off yarn ends at the end of a project (and not while making it), and with such a large blanket where you change colors every row it's quite a job. But it is progressing steadily and one happy day it will be finished. I wish you a pleasant Sunday!

Round Crochet Pillow - Free Pattern

About two weeks ago I saw a gorgeous pattern of a bag in the latest Inside Crochet. So I bought the magazine (the digital version) and all of a sudden I was totally into crochet again. I searched my yarn stash and found some gorgeous colours and made the bag. I will write a blog post about the bag later this week. But once I started, I couldn't stop crocheting and made this round pillow of the yarn that was left. It is a pretty simple pattern and I think it's perfect for beginners. You can find the free pattern below (scroll down, it's below the Dutch version). I made the granny pillow in 2020. That pattern is available on Ravelry for free (in English and Dutch). Click here to go to that pattern. Have a lovely Sunday!

Haakpatroon rond kussen

Haaknaald: 4.5mm
Kussen: rond kussen, maat 40cm

4. Haak 2 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom. (32)
5. Haak 3 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom. (40)
6. Haak 4 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom. (48)
7. Haak 5 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom. (56)
8. Haak 6 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom. (64)
9. Haak 7 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom.
12. Haak 10 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom. (96)
13. Haak 11 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom.
15. Haak 13 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom. (120)
16. Haak 14 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom. (128)
17. Haak 15 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom.

21. Haak 19 halve stokjes, meerder in de volgende steek. Herhaal rondom.

Crochet pattern round pillow

Crochet hook size: 4.5mm
Yarn: every yarn that's for a crochet hook size 4.5mm
Pillow: round pillow, size 40cm
General remark: if you crochet more tight or more loose than I do, your cover might be too small or too big for the pillow. If that happens you can leave out or add extra rows. I did not mention where you have to change colour so you can decide for yourself when and where to do so. If you don't know how to change colour, click here for a tutorial. This pattern is written in US terms.
INC = increase (in this pattern you increase with half double crochet stitches)
HDC = half double crochet

1. Make 6 SC in a magic ring (click here for a tutorial). If you don't want to use the magic ring, make 2 chain stitches and do 6 SC in the first chain. Make 1 slip stitch in the first SC, chain 2 (these 2 chains never count as a stitch in this pattern).
2. INC around (with HDC), make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC (so not in the chain stitches, see remark at the end of row 1), chain 2. (12)
3. INC around, make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC, chain 2. (24)
4. 2 HDC, INC in the next stitch. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (32)
5. 3 HDC, INC in the next stitch. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (40)
6. 4 HDC, INC in the next stitch. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (48)
7. 5 HDC, INC in the next stitch. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (56)
8. 6 HDC, INC in the next stitch. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (64)
9. 7 HDC, INC in the next stitch. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (72)
10. 4 HDC, INC, 4 HDC. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (80)

13. 11 HDC, INC in the next stitch. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (104)
14. 6 HDC, INC, 6 HDC. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (112)
15. 13 HDC, INC in the next stitch. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (120)
16. 14 HDC, INC in the next stitch. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (128)
17. 15 HDC, INC in the next stitch. Repeat around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first HDC that you made at the beginning of this row, chain 2. (136)

Now make another circle just like the one you made before, but don't fasten off at the end of row 22. Place both halves on top of one another with the right sides facing outside. Now make single crochet stitches around, make sure to go through both stitches of row 22 of both halves. Don't forget to put the pillow inside before you close the pillow. Fasten off and work away the remaining yarn ends.

Crochet Cable Pillow

I was so pleasantly surprised by all the sweet responses to my last post in which I announced the end of Link Your Stuff! Thank you so much for everyone who responded. It is nice to know that you all regret my decision, but that you understand it at the same time. As Akkelien mentioned in her comment, for me it's a bit like: after ten years you are a bit 'done partying' haha
Meanwhile I'm still crocheting of course, and this week I finally managed to finish the cable pillow. I found it quite a challenge, and in the beginning it went wrong quite often with crocheting the right stitches at the right spot. But after some unravelling and reading the instructions carefully, I managed to get it right. And this is how it turned out. You can find the free pattern here. My advice is to really read all the tips carefully and also watch the video that's in the blog post. It helped me a lot to get it right. I wish you a nice Saturday!

Bobble Stitch Pillow Free Pattern

The bobble stitch pillow is ready! I'm so super happy with it. The pattern of the bobble stitches turned out great and with the bright colors (they were a gift) I have a super cute extra pillow to use. The pattern is available below in English, but if you prefer a PDF-version you can find it here in my Etsy-shop. Go visit this blog post to see what yarn I've used. I made this pillow with a crochet hook size 5mm, the pillow is 45x45cm wide. Happy crocheting!

The pattern

How to make the bobble stitch

Do all of the following steps in the same stitch
1. Yarn over, hook in stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through first two loops (you now have two loops on your hook).

Your bobble stitch is done.

The back of the pillow
Turn after every row.

Egyptian Cotton

A while ago I received ten beautiful balls of Egyptian Cotton in very pretty colors. I immediately started crocheting a blanket, but after a while I felt like doing a smaller project. And I also wanted a different pattern. So yesterday I started with a new pillow. It is easy to crochet with a 5mm crochet hook and I always like bobble stitches. You need a lot of yarn for a bobble stitch, because with this bobble stitch you actually crochet five double crochet stitches (that are not finished) in one stitch. So you can figure out how many extra stitches that is instead of a regular row of double crochet stitches. But it's fun and I love making it. I am writing out the pattern so I will put that on my blog as soon as it is finished. I hope to have it published next week. I wish you a happy Sunday!
p.s. here's the yarn bundle I have, I only have the Egyptian Cotton and not the Bamboo.

From bag to pillow cover

A while ago I crocheted this bag, but I don't use it at all and that's quite a shame. Because the squares are really cute. So I took the bag apart and now I'm making a pillow cover out of it. It goes really fast and it will be fun. I am also working on another square. It is made of thicker cotton. At first I wanted to make a blanket out of it, but that is actually not very handy because with that thick yarn it becomes a very heavy blanket. So that will also be a pillow cover. Nice for in the summer on a garden bench for example. But that summer is a long way off. There's a huge amount of snow outside today. It looks lovely, but I will stay inside for a while. I wish you a nice Sunday!

Christmas Tree Bobble Stitch Pillow

It's not finished yet but I'm already very happy with it. It was a super-fast pattern, I was able to finish the front of the pillow in just one evening. After that I crocheted the back, but now I have to sew everything together. As soon as it is finished I will show the whole pillow in a blog post, and I will tell you what materials I used for this pillow. The pattern is free and available here. It's been a long time since I crocheted the bobble stitch, but it's still so much fun! Earlier I made a pillow with the bobble stitch, you can still download that pattern for free. Click here to see that pillow and to go to the pattern. So now I will continue working on my Christmas pillow so that it's finished in time for Christmas.

Round granny pillow

What a crazy time it is! Suddenly a lot of appointments are being cancelled and we're sitting at home en masse. I wonder what else we're going to get. I'm not really worried, but I can't say that I'm totally relaxed about it either. So while sitting mainly at home I try to have fun with a big pile of scraps of yarn that have been lying here in a box for a long time. I made this granny pillow a while back (blog post available here) and I actually liked it so much that I'm going to make another one. I'm using Phildar Phil Coton 3. This one will be a bit bigger than the previous one, because I also have a slightly bigger round pillow that I don't use at the moment. So luckily I don't have to get bored, but it all feels a bit crazy. I am curious how you are going through these days. Luckily the sun is just coming through, so maybe I can enjoy a little sunshine on my balcony later today. I wish you a nice day today!

Crochet Round Granny Pillow

Finally, this pillow is finished. It took me quite a while, because I wanted the circle to be nice and flat and not wavy or curled. So after a lot of unravelling and starting all over again it all worked out and this is the result. The pattern of this circle is so nice and flat that you can easily use it for a doily as well, but I will show you that another time. This pillow is 40cm wide (diameter) and I crocheted it with scraps of Phildar Phil Coton 3 and a crochet hook 3.5mm. It has become a very nice colorful pillow. The pattern is available here in English and Dutch on Ravelry. I wish you a nice day!

Crochet Star and Moon Pillow Set

I tried to make a moon some time ago, but I didn't expect it to be so difficult. I kept trying until it had the right shape and size and this weekend I was able to finish it. The star is a pattern that I designed some time ago, and because they match so well you'll receive the pattern of the star when you purchase the pattern of the moon. The pattern is available in English (US terms) here on Etsy and here at LoveCrochet. I made these pillows with Paintbox Yarns (Simply Chunky and Cotton Aran). Once finished they have the same size: they are both 35cm wide/high. Have a happy Monday!

Daisy Flower Pillow

With this gorgeous weather I'm so in to making happy floral projects. At the moment I'm working really hard to finish a blanket, but of course I have the pillows here that I made for my last book. This is the Daisy Flower Pillow and this pillow makes me so happy. As said you can find the pattern in my book Crochet in the City. The book is written in both Dutch and English (in one publication) and you can order the book online here.
Are you already working on Spring patterns? Once I've finished my blanket I'll surely start something new and pink, because that's my favourite color when Spring is near.

Star and Heart Pillow

Christmas and New Years Eve are over and I hope you had a good time. For me the holidays are over so I've put my crochet projects in the cupboard again until I have a little more time. I made this cushion with this Paintbox yarn a while ago and I thought it was a very cheerful combination. You can find the patterns here at LoveCrafts.
I also got a surprise today: the YLA box was delivered today! Very exciting, because this time a pattern designed by me is in the box. You can not order the box anymore but if you really want one you can always contact the YLA Box to see if there is still a spare copy available. Do you want to know what's in the box? For now that's still a secret because not everyone has received the box yet and of course it must be a surprise. I will show the project here as soon as it's not a secret anymore.

Crochet Cat Pillow

I still had a skein of Bobbiny rope yarn in my yarn stash and because I didn't want to make a bag or a basket of it, I decided to make a pillow. And it turned out to be a cat pillow. :-) The result is on the picture above. This pillow makes me smile when I look at it and it fits the other pillow (that I bought at Ikea) very well. The pattern of this cat pillow is available here in my Etsy-shop. Have a lovely day!
