Almost Christmas

It is almost Christmas and I would have liked to make a lot of things but not everything was finished in time. But that doesn't matter, I did find a lot of nice patterns for next year. The patterns above are all very small, so ideal to crochet last minute. Click on Snowman, Christmas baubles, Reindeer or Christmas Tree to go to the patterns. Perhaps you have got just enough time to make either one of them. I wish you a Merry Christmas!

Cocoon!

I got the book Cocoon! A beautiful book that I really wanted to get started with right away. In the book you will find patterns of (home) accessories, such as blankets, a pillow and beautiful scarves. My eye immediately fell on the blanket of which the pattern is about halfway the book. I didn't have the right materials but I really wanted to start working on it, so I took one of my balls of Paintbox Yarns Simply Chunky and a crochet hook 6mm as prescribed on the ball of yarn. It says in the pattern that you have to crochet loosely. Now I know that I always crochet a bit too tight, but I did my best not to do that this time. I soon found out that it is not an easy stitch to make. When I was in the 2nd row I came to the conclusion that I was doing something wrong. And actually it became too tight, even though I tried so hard. So there was nothing to do but start all over again. And I thought, if I have to start all over again, I might as well get a bigger crochet hook. So I started again from the start but with a bigger crochet hook (7mm). I soon discovered where I had gone wrong, I just hadn't followed the pattern very well. So I did what the pattern said and it really started to look so beautiful! When I was halfway the third row I saw that I should have taken an even bigger crochet hook. Then it would have become even looser, something that (as already stated in the pattern) would have fitted better with a blanket, because now my blanket became a bit stiff. But I did enjoy what unfolded under my eyes: a beautiful piece of crochet work! Gradually I saw that I wouldn't have enough yarn to finish the blanket, so I finally decided to unravel and make the blanket again but with the yarn and the crochet hook (15mm) as mentioned in the book. I know I'll do the unravelling with pain in my heart, because it is going to be so beautiful. But I know it is going to be even more beautiful next time, that's a bit of consolation. The rest of the book is also really beautiful. There's another pillow in what I'd like to make and als the use of color in the book is really an inspiration in itself. It is also a lovely book to just put on your table, the design is so pretty. So are you looking for a nice book for Christmas? Ask at your local wool store (the book is only available in Dutch right now). Have a happy day!

Christmas Tree Bobble Stitch Pillow

It's not finished yet but I'm already very happy with it. It was a super-fast pattern, I was able to finish the front of the pillow in just one evening. After that I crocheted the back, but now I have to sew everything together. As soon as it is finished I will show the whole pillow in a blog post, and I will tell you what materials I used for this pillow. The pattern is free and available here. It's been a long time since I crocheted the bobble stitch, but it's still so much fun! Earlier I made a pillow with the bobble stitch, you can still download that pattern for free. Click here to see that pillow and to go to the pattern. So now I will continue working on my Christmas pillow so that it's finished in time for Christmas.

Kawaii Christmas Tree

I made this cute crochet Kawaii Christmas ornament yesterday. The pattern is available for free on the Hobbii website (click here). For this tree I used a crochet hook size 3mm and various types of cotton. It were mainly scraps of yarn, which is great for a small project like this. The pattern is a design by Jennifer Santos, you can find her here on Instagram. I'm working on some more Christmas patterns, I'll show you one them later this week. Have a happy weekend!

Christmas Trees

In a previous blog post I showed that I was busy with all colored Christmas trees, and now they are finished. Isn't it a cheerful collection? The pattern is from years ago. I made it in 2011 when I had just starting crocheting. It is still a fun pattern and in December the blog post about these trees gets many visitors. It's nice to see that there are still people making 'my' trees. If you click here you'll go to the blog post with the free pattern. I wish you a nice day!

Crochet Cowl Pattern

Last year I was doing several workshops at the Knitting & Stitching Show in London, and for these workshops I needed some new designs. I always love to see what I can make out of just 1 ball of yarn, and so I made this cowl. I haven't made many cowls, because usually I prefer knitted cowls and shawls. But I'm very happy with the result of this one. The pattern is available in English my Etsy-shop, click here to go there. If you want to purchase the pattern with the yarn I've used, click here to go to LoveCrafts. I've planned to translate the pattern to Dutch but I'm not sure when I'll finish that one. So for now only the English (US terms) version is available. Have a happy evening!

Blue Violets Blanket

This is the Blue Violets Blanket, a blanket I designed for my book Crochet in the City that was released in 2018. It seems like such a long time ago that the book was published, but I can still clearly remember when I worked on this blanket. The bigger it got, the happier I got. I still think it's one of the most beautiful projects in the book. I'm now working on adding the patterns from the book to my Etsy-shop. That's quite a lot of work and at the moment only the English version of this pattern is available. You can order it here. The book is also still available. Click here to have a look at it. I wish you a nice day!

Crochet Christmas Trees

Someone on Instagram had crocheted my Christmas trees. I wrote out the pattern in 2011 and every year in december that blog post is very popular. I crocheted the trees back then in red, white and green. But the person who crocheted the trees on Instagram used cheerful colours, and that inspired me to do the same with other colours and Drops Paris cotton. It's nice to crochet again with Drops Paris. I crocheted a lot with that in the early days of my blog. Slowly I switched to thinner yarn and a smaller crochet hook, but now that I'm back with this cotton I remember why I liked it so much. A lot of people complained at the time that that thread splits easily. It never bothered me that much and I noticed that sometimes the reason it splits is the crochet hook people were using. I still use my very first crochet hook for this cotton. I bought it in 2010 and it's one of the best crochet hooks I ever had (I think it was a Lana Grossa one). So today I'll continue with these Christmas trees. I still need to make the trunks and I have to stuff them slightly so I have some work to do. The pattern of the Christmas trees can be found here in this old blog post. I wish you a nice Sunday and lots of fun crocheting these trees.

Katia Seacell Cotton

A while ago I crocheted this blanket and pillow from Katia Seacell Cotton. It was such a nice project to make. I used 1 ball of each color and a crochet hook size 4mm. The yarn is so lovely and soft, I will definitely use it again for another blanket. The pattern of the blanket can be found here on Ravelry. The pillow is actually a very simple striped pattern of half double crochet stitches (US terms). The size of the pillow depends on how much yarn you have left after crocheting the blanket. Of course you can also buy extra balls, but I always like to see what I can make with 1 ball. More blanket patterns are here, more cushion patterns are here. I wish you a happy Sunday!

Welkom bij Link Your Stuff!

It took a while but the cloud I started making (read about it here) is finally finished. I really think it has become super cute. In the original pattern the cloud is white, but I still had a lot of gray, so that's why I opted for gray. The cloud was not difficult to make but in the end much bigger than I thought. I crocheted with crochet hook 3.5mm and two balls of Durable Coral Light Grey. The size is just right for me (approximately 30cm wide), but the pattern is based on crochet hook 6.5mm. So then you get a really big cloud. The book can be found here, and the loose pattern of the cloud can be found here. The pillow in the background is matches with the blanket in the foreground. I will tell you more about that this weekend. Have a nice day!

4. Nurse by Haekelfieber

Oeps!

Oops! Somehow I forgot about Link Your Stuff last week. And by the time I thought about it, it was so long after I should have posted it that I decided to skip it for a week. Strange isn't it, I'm home a lot these days and I have so much time to blog but somehow I spend my time on different things. All days somehow look the same, and sometimes I forget what day it is. Hopefully it will all be different soon. Today I have some projects to finish, so it will be a fun day full of crochet. Wishing you a lovely weekend and enjoy Link Your Stuff!

Crochet Cloud

Mijn wolk is ongeveer 30cm breed.

I had underestimated the size of this cloud a bit. When I started I thought I could finish it quickly, but it turned out differently. So it's not finished yet, but almost as you can see. This pattern comes from the book Amigurumi at Home by Ana Paula Rímoli. It is a simple and easy to follow pattern. In the book this cloud is crocheted with white yarn and a crochet hook size 6.5mm. I had no yarn for a crochet hook 6.5mm, so I crocheted the cloud with a crochet hook size 3mm and two balls of Durable Coral in the color Light Grey. If you crochet with a crochet hook 6.5mm the cloud will be a lot bigger. I would love to make that version too some day. My cloud is about 30cm wide. Exactly the right size to put it somewhere on a bookshelf for example. But first I'll sew the eyes and the cheeks on the cloud. Then it's all finished and I can start the next project. I don't know what my next project will be, but I recently bought two nice new books so I'm going to find something for sure. The book Amigurumi at Home can be bought here as an ebook, the pattern of the cloud is available here in the Etsy-shop of Ana. Happy crocheting!

4. Blanket by Hip en Kleurig

Last week I wanted to post an update about the new project I'm working on, but I couldn't get the pictures right (no sunshine here, it's been raining all week) and the pattern was a lot more work then I initially thought. So it took some extra time but I hope to finish it tomorrow. For now I wish you lots of fun at Link Your Stuff!

Crochet Bear and Dog

The second project from the book Cuddly Amigurumi Toys is finished. Just like the previous toy it looks a bit different then the one in the book. First of all I used a plastic nose again instead of the crocheted nose you see in the book. In addition, I accidentally stitched the ears in the wrong place. They should have been more on the side and not quite on top as I did. Anyway, it's a nice set I think. If you want to see the bear and the dog from the book, take a look at the cover of the book. The dog is on the left side of the cover, the bear on the right side.
Today I'm going to organize my crochet books and see what my next project will be. I'm not quite sure what it will be, there is a lot to choose from. But I think it will be an amigurumi again. I wish you a happy Sunday!

Crochet Dog

I'm afraid it's going to be a long, quiet autumn. And so I'm trying to think of ways to spend the time well and fun. And that's not so easy, because there are so many fun things that are being cancelled. And there are so many things that can't be planned and that makes everything seem less colorful. I haven't blogged very actively for a while, but maybe that's just something to pick up again. Because it's a nice way to spend some time and at the same time I may be doing other people a favour as well. I've been following a number of blogs myself for a long time, and I really enjoy reading them. Especially nowadays it's a nice distraction, especially when someone writes about cheerful things. So I'm going to do my best to fill my blog a bit more often with fun crochet things. Cute patterns for example, or I might write about a nice crochet book I have in my closet (and there are a lot of them). The last couple of weeks the dog in the picture slowly became a whole. I was lucky to be able to go on vacation for a week. The weather was beautiful and it was not far from home. It was such a nice, quiet place and I brought a big bag with yarn and a crochet pattern book. That book was the book Cuddly Amigurumi Toys by Mari-Liis Lille. I made a reindeer from this book some time ago, you can see it here. But now I made this dog (click here to see more crochet dogs and patterns). If you see the pattern in the book you will notice that I made a different nose. Years ago I bought a big bag of noses, and this is one of those projects where I can use a nose again. And meanwhile I started another project from the same book. I will show it to you next week, it will be something similar and maybe I'll use a nose like that again. For now I wish you a good evening!

Gunther the Fox

Gek he?

I had been working on the orange Günther the Fox for a while. Today I finally managed to finish it. I just didn't feel like crocheting for a while, that's why he was still unfinished. Crazy, isn't it? For the past ten years I've crocheted every day, and lately I just didn't feel like it. But yesterday I started crocheting a very cute dog and I was as enthusiastic as before. So that's nice!
I crocheted the pink and blue Günther some time ago. I keep finding the pattern difficult. If you look closely, every Günther looks a bit different. But it doesn't matter, it's always lovely to make Günther. I made the orange Günther with Phildar Phil Coton 3 and a crochet hook size 3.5mm. The pattern is available for free here, and more foxes and fox patterns are here. I wish you a nice day!

Crochet Bear

I made this bear with a free pattern from Lucia. I made it before in another colour, click here to see the bear in blue. The pattern is available on the website of Lucia. The pattern is available in English and Spanish. I translated the Spanish stitches to US terms in the blog post of the other bear. Click here to see it. Have a happy day!
