Big!

Ik had er al over gehoord maar zag het dit weekend met eigen ogen in de winkel van Francis in Delft: dit geweldige materiaal van Phildar. Het is bedoeld om interieurprojecten mee te maken (een vloerkleed bijvoorbeeld) maar je kunt er ook een sjaal mee maken. Francis vertelde namelijk dat ze dit materiaal tot nu toe uitsluitend verkocht heeft aan mensen die er een sjaal van gingen maken, dus het mag vreemd klinken, at is het dus niet :-) Deze steken zijn opgezet met breinaalden maat 25. Het is beschikbaar in verschillende kleuren die allemaal even mooi zijn, dus als je in Delft bent, ga dan vooral even een kijkje nemen bij Knottenwol.
Update: wie niet in de buurt van Delft woont kan eventueel via internet bestellen. Mail naar info@knottenwol.nl voor meer informatie.

I'd already heard about it, but this weekend I saw it in the shop of Francis in Delft: this lovely material of Phildar. It's meant to be used for interior projects (a carpet for instance) but you can make a scarf with it as well. In fact, Francis told me so far she's only sold it to people who were going to make a scarf of it so it might sound strange but it isn't! :-) The stitches were casted on with knitting needles 25mm. It's available in various colours that are all very pretty, so if you're in Delft, go check it out at Knottenwol!

Schildpadden zijn zo lief om te haken, en gelukkig zijn er een aantal patroontjes te vinden op internet. Een Nederlands patroon vind je hier, een Engels patroon hier en nog een heel schattig Engels patroon hier. Wie al een tijdje meeleest herkent het laatste patroon vast. Het is van Freshstiches, een geweldige site waar ik al eerder over geblogd heb.

Turtles are so cute to crochet, and luckily there are a few patterns available on the internet.  You can find a Dutch pattern here, an English pattern here and another cute English pattern here. Those of you who come here more often probably recognise the last pattern. It's from Freshstiches, a great site that I blogged about before already.

Een tijd geleden maakte ik een konijn wat een klein beetje op Nijntje leek. De afgelopen weken heb ik dat patroon een beetje aangepast door het hoofd rond te maken. Het lijfje heb ik zo gemaakt dat het nu als rammelaar gebruikt kan worden. Het patroon? Dat kun je gratis downloaden op Ravelry.

Some time ago I made an easter bunny that looked a bit like miffy. The past few weeks I've been adjusting the pattern by making the head more round. I've adjusted the body as well, so now it's a rattle. The pattern? You can find it as a free download on Ravelry.

Patronen ontwerpen vind ik erg leuk, maar het lastigste vind ik iets verzinnen wat er nog niet is. Er zijn al zoveel mooie dingen ontworpen! Deze appelboom (die ook als rammelaar gemaakt kan worden) bedacht ik tijdens onze laatste vakantie in Engeland. Gisteren heb ik het patroon eindelijk helemaal opgeschreven en vanaf nu is het verkrijgbaar in mijn Etsy-shop.

I love designing patterns, but I think it's the hardest thing to come up with something that isn't there yet. There are already so many gorgeous designs out there! I came up with the idea of this apple tree (that can also be made as a rattle) during our last vacation in the UK. Yesterday I managed to write down the pattern so as from today the pattern in available in my Etsy-shop.

De afgelopen dagen waren we op familiebezoek, en onderweg in de auto (het is zo'n 3 uur rijden) haakte ik dit eendje. De basis is een bestaand patroontje (het vogelbekdier uit het boek Schattige Huisdieren Haken), ik heb het alleen een beetje aangepast.


The past few days we were on a family visit, and while we were travelling (it's a 3 hour drive) I made this duckling. It's an existing pattern (the platypus from the book Super, Super Cute Crochet) that I adjusted a little bit.

Monday Pattern Day: Frog Footstool!

Als je van kikkers houdt vind je deze poef vast geweldig. Je kunt 'm maken van Zpagetti. Het Nederlandse patroon van de kikkerpoef was ooit beschikbaar op de site van het tijdschrift OOK, maar helaas is het daar niet meer te vinden. Het patroon heb ik destijds (met toestemming) in het Engels vertaald, dus dat tref je hieronder aan. Het patroon is geschreven in US terminologie.

If you love frogs you probably love this footstool. You can make him from Zpagetti. The Dutch pattern of the Frog Footstool was once on the website of the magazine OOK, but it has been removed unfortunately. I've translated the pattern into English some time ago (I got permission for that). You will find it below. The pattern is written in US terms.


What you need to make this footstool

Lots of green t-shirt yarn.

A little piece of black t-shirt yarn.

A little piece of red t-shirt yarn or fabric.

A crochet hook that's suitable for the t-shirt yarn.

Filling.

The top of the footstool

1. Make a magic ring.

2. Chain 2, 11 DC. Close the ring of DC with a SLST.

3. Now close the ring by pulling the thread that’s hanging loose in the middle.

4. 2DC in every stitch. (24)

5. Close the ring of DC with a SLST.

6. **1DC in the next stitch, 2DC in the next stitch.** Repeat around. (36)

7. Close the ring of DC with a SLST.

8. **1DC in the next stitch, 1DC in the next stitch, 2DC in the next stitch.** Repeat around.  (48)

9.  Close the ring of DC with a SLST.

10. **1DC in the next stitch, 1DC in the next stitch, 1DC in the next stitch, 2DC in the next  stitch.** Repeat around. (60)

11.Close the ring of DC with a SLST.

12. **1DC in the next stitch, 1DC in the next stitch, 1DC in the next stitch, 1DC in the next stitch, 2DC in the next stitch.** Repeat around. (72)

13. Close the ring of DC with a SLST.

14– 22. 72DC around. After every ring of DC, close with a SLST.

23. **5DC, DEC.** Repeat around. (60)

Fasten off.

The bottom

Repeat rows 1-10 of the top of the footstool (so until you've reached 60 stitches around).

Fasten off.

How to assemble

 Fill the footstool with an old blanket for example. It’s best to cover it in a t-shirt (or another piece of fabric) that has the same colour as the t-shirt yarn.

Sew or crochet both halves together.

Legs (make 4)

1. Chain 4. SC1 in second stitch from hook. SC1, SC1. (3)
2. 2SC, 3SC in the next stitch, 2SC.
3. 3SC, 3SC in the next stitch, 3SC.
4. 4SC, 3SC in the next stitch, 4SC.
5. 5SC, 3SC in the next stitch, 5SC.
6. 6SC, 3SC in the next stitch, 6SC.
7. 7SC, 3SC in the next stitch, 7SC.
8. 8SC, 3SC in the next stitch, 8SC.
9. Fasten off.

Place 1 leg on top of the other and SC around. If you like, you can fill the legs to make them a bit more solid. Now sew the legs to the bottom of the footstool.

Eyes (make 2)

1. Make a magic ring.

2. Chain 2, 11 DC. Close the ring of DC with a SLST.

3. Now close the ring by pulling the thread that’s hanging loose in the middle.

4. 2DC in every stitch. (24)

5. DEC by crocheting every two stitches together. (12)
Put filling in the eye and close it. Make eyeballs with black t-shirt yarn or fabric

and use red t-shirt yarn or fabric to make the mouth.

Mario!

Een paar jaar geleden had ik een tijdje een Nintendo te leen, en in die tijd heb ik ontzettend vaak Mario gespeeld. Eigenlijk was ik er helemaal verslaafd aan :-) dus dit patroon doet meteen aan die tijd denken. Het patroon is op Etsy in deze winkel verkrijgbaar. Als je Mario ook kent, dan vindt je het gratis patroon van deze ster, deze paddestoel of deze andere hele bekende Mario-paddestoel: Goomba!

A few years ago I borrowed a Nintendo for some time, and during that time I played Mario a lot. Actually, I was an addict :-) so this pattern immediately reminded me of that time. The pattern is available on Etsy in this shop. If you know Mario as well, you'll probably like the free pattern of this star, this mushroom or this other very well-known Mario-mushroom: Goomba!

Monday Pattern Day: Whale!

Het patroon van vandaag komt uit een geweldig leuk boek: Schattige huisdieren haken van Brigitte Read. Een van de deelnemers van de workshop van afgelopen donderdag had het bij zich, en ik moest het gewoon hebben. Er staan namelijk 35 (!) ontzettend leuke patronen in, zoals bijvoorbeeld deze walvis. Ik heb het meteen gekocht en heb meteen de walvis gemaakt. Is 'ie leuk of niet? Het boek is hier verkrijgbaar.

The pattern of today comes from the book: Super-super cute crochet from Brigitte Read. One of the students of last week's workshop had it with her, and I just had to have it. For there are 35 (!) very nice patterns in this book, like this whale. I bought the book immediately and I made this whale. It's cute, isn't it? The book is available here.

Monday Pattern Day: Apple Coasters!

Een hele tijd geleden maakte ik deze Apple Coasters. Vervolgens dacht ik: je kunt er ook een sinaasappel of een citroen van maken door gewoon van kleur te wisselen. Grappig toch? Je kunt de coasters haken met Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran en een haaknaald 4mm.

A long time ago I made these Apple Coasters. Then I thought: you can easily change these apples into lemons or oranges by changing color. Isn't that fun? Cirkel (met rood)
- 4L, aan elkaar vastmaken met een HV. Je kunt ook met een magische ring starten. Als je niet weet hoe dan moet, klik dan hier.
- 2L, 10ST in de ring. Het eerste en het laatste stokje aan elkaar vastmaken met een HV. (10)
- 2L, 2ST in elk onderliggende stokje. Het eerste en het laatste stokje aan elkaar vastmaken met een HV. (20)
- 2L, 2ST in elk onderliggende stokje. Het eerste en het laatste stokje aan elkaar vastmaken met een HV. (40)
- 40V. (40)

Steel (met grijs)
- 8L.
- 1V in 2e steek vanaf de naald.
- 6HV in de volgende steken. Afhechten.

Blaadje (met groen)
- 6L.
- 1V in 2e steek vanaf de naald. In de volgende steken: 1HST, 1ST, 1HST, 1V.
- Ga nu verder aan de andere kant van de 6L van de eerste rij: 1V, 1HST, 1ST, 1HST, 1V. Haak nu halve vaste in de eerste vaste die je haakte aan het begin van de tweede toer.
- Om een streepje in het midden van het blad te krijgen ga je door het midden met HV naar het beneden.

Circle (with red)
- Chain 4. Attach the first to the last with a SLST. You can also start with a magic ring. If you don't know how to make a magic ring, click here.
- Chain 2, 10DC in the ring. Attach the first to the last with a SLST. (10)
- Chain 2, 2DC in every DC of the previous row. Attach the first to the last with a SLST. (20)
- Chain 2, 2DC in every DC of the previous row. Attach the first to the last with a SLST. (40)
- 40SC. (40)

Stem (with grey)
- Chain 8.
- 1SC in the 2nd stitch.
- 6SLST in the next 6 stitches. Finish off.

Leaf (with green)
- Chain 6.
- 1SC in the 2nd stitch. In the next stitches: 1HDC, 1DC, 1HDC, 1SC. 
- Now keep going on the other side of the 6 chains of the first row: 1SC, 1HDC, 1DC, 1HDC, 1SC. Make 1 SLST in the first SC that you made in the second row.
- SLST through the middle of the leaf back down to the beginning of the leaf to get a stripe in the middle of the leaf.

Summer's gone

Ondanks dat de zomer nu echt voorbij lijkt heb ik toch nog maar wat bloemen gehaakt. Het patroon is weer heel eenvoudig en staat onderaan dit bericht. Patroon
(ST = stokjes, L = losse, V = vaste, HV = halve vaste)
1. 6L. Maak de eerste aan de laatste vast met een halve vaste.
2. Haak 15V in de ring. (Verander hier eventueel van kleur als je de blaadjes een andere kleur wilt geven)
3. *** 3L, 2ST in de volgende 2 steken, 3L, 1HV in de volgende V.***

Pattern
(CH = chain, DC = double crochet, SC = single crochet, SLST = slip stitch)
1. CH6. Attach the first to the last stitch with a slip stitch.
2. 15SC in the ring. (Change colour here if you want the petals to have a different colour)
3. *** CH3, 2DC in the next 2 stitches, CH3, slip stitch in the next SC.*** Repeat until you have 5 petals.

Huge Goldfish

Ik had al een tijdje het plan om een hele grote goudvis te maken, en toen ik gisteren aan het winkelen was vond ik deze oranje garen (Hoooked Zpagetti). Het lag er vast op mij te wachten :-) Is het geen schatje?

To make a huge goldfish was something I had in mind for a long time, and when I was shopping yesterday I found this orange t-shirt yarn (Hoooked Zpagetti). It must have been there waiting for me :-) Isn't he cute?

Monday Pattern Day: double flowers

Ik haakte deze bloemen met Drops Paris katoen en een haaknaald 4mm. Een garen wat daar erg op lijkt is Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran verkrijgbaar bij LoveCrafts.
1. 6L, vastmaken met een HV.
2. 3L, 2DST (dubbele stokjes), 3L, 1HV in de ring van 6L. Herhaal tot je 5 blaadjes hebt. (foto 1)
3. 3L (foto 2), 1HV tussen de blaadjes (foto 3). Herhaal tot je 5 boogjes hebt (foto 4).
4. In het boogje haken: 1HV, 3L, 3DST, 3L, vastmaken in het boogje met een HV (foto 5). Herhaal dit in elk boogje (foto 6). Duw nu de rode blaadjes naar boven door het gat in het midden zodat ze op de groene blaadjes komen te liggen (foto 7) en je bloem is klaar.

Pattern
I made these flowers with Drops Paris cotton and a crochet hook size 4mm. A yarn that's very similar is Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran, available at LoveCrafts.
1. Chain 6, attach the first chain to the last with a slip stitch.
2. Chain 3, 2 TR (treble crochet), chain 3, 1SLST in the ring. Repeat until you have 5 leaves. (picture 1)
3. Chain 3 (picture 2), 1SL ST in between the leaves (picture 3). Repeat until you have 5 bows (picture 4).
4. Crochet in the bow: 1SL ST, chain 3, 3TR, chain 3, attach to the bow with a SL ST (picture 5). Repeat in every bow (picture 6). Now push the red leaves up through the hole in the middle so they will be on top of the green leaves (picture 7) and your flower is finished.
