Granny squares aan elkaar naaien is niet moeilijk. Er zijn verschillende manieren voor. Hieronder leg ik aan de hand van het bovenstaande tasje een methode uit. Je kunt deze methode altijd gebruiken bij patronen waarbij je squares aan elkaar moet naaien, dus ook bij kussens of dekens. De square hierboven haakte ik met Drops Paris en een haaknaald 4mm. Je kunt ook ander garen gebruiken, bijvoorbeeld
Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran. Voor beide garens gebruik ik een haaknaald 4mm.
Sewing granny squares isn't very complicated. There are a few different ways for it. Below I'll explain it by using the pattern of the tiny bag above. You can use this method for all patterns where you have to sew squares, so you can use it for pillows or blankets as well. I made the square above with Drops Paris cotton. You can also use another yarn, like Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran. For both yarns I use a crochet hook size 4mm.
Om het tasje te maken begin je met het haken van twee squares.
To make the bag, start with crocheting two squares.
1. Haak 4 lossen (deze tellen als 1 losse + 1 stokje), haak in de eerste losse 1 stokje.
2. Haak nu rondom telkens 1 losse + 1 stokje in de eerste losse van rij 1. Haak in totaal 8 stokjes. Eindig met een halve vaste bovenin het allereerste stokje. Wissel daarbij van kleur.
3. Haak nu in de naastgelegen 1-losse-opening 1 vaste, haak 2 lossen (dit telt als het eerste stokje). Haak in dezelfde 1-losse-opening 1 stokje.
4. Haak 1 losse, haak in de volgende 1-losse-opening 2 stokjes. Herhaal dit tot je rond bent. Eindig met een halve vaste bovenin het eerste stokje.
5. Haak 1 halve vaste bovenin het volgende stokje. Wissel daarbij van kleur.
6. Haak nu in de naastgelegen 1-losse-opening 1 vaste, haak 2 lossen (dit telt als het eerste stokje). Haak in dezelfde opening 2 stokjes.
7. *Haak 1 losse. Haak in de volgende 1-losse-opening 3 stokjes. Haak 2 lossen. Haak in dezelfde 1-losse-opening nog 3 stokjes. Haak 1 losse. Haak in de volgende 1-losse-opening 3 stokjes.* Herhaal wat tussen * staat tot je rond bent. Eindig met een halve vaste bovenin het eerste stokje. Haak bovenin elk van de volgende twee stokjes 1 halve vaste.
8. Herhaal nu rij 6 en 7. Het onderstreepte deel van rij 7 doe je in deze rij 1 keer extra, dus twee keer aan elke zijkant. Zou je de square nog groter maken, dan komt daar telkens 1 keer extra bij.
9. Als je square groot genoeg is haak je rondom bovenin elk stokje 1 vaste. In de 1-losse-openingen haak je ook 1 vaste. In elke hoek haak je 1 vaste, 1 losse, 1 vaste. Hecht af als je rond bent.
1. Chain 4 (they count as 1 chain stitch and 1 double crochet), do 1 double crochet in the first chain.
2. Now do 1 chain stitch and 1 double crochet in the first chain of row 1. Repeat this until you have 8 double crochet. End with a slip stitch in the first double crochet. Change colour when you do.
3. In the next 1-chain-opening: 1 single crochet + 2 chain stitches (this is the first double crochet). Do 1 double crochet in the same 1-chain-opening.
4. Now do 1 chain stitch + 2 double crochet in the next 1-chain-opening. Repeat until you've gone round. End with a slip stitch in the first double crochet.
5. No do 1 slip stitch in the next double crochet. Change colour here.
6. In the next 1-chain-opening do 1 single crochet + 2 schain stitches (this is the first double crochet). Do 2 double crochet in the same opening.
7. *Do 1 chain stitch. In the next 1-chain-opening: 3 double crochet. Chain 2. In the same 1-chain opening: 3 double crochet. Do 1 chain sitch. In the next 1-chain-opening 3 double crochet.* Repeat what's in between * until you've gone round. End with a slip stich in the next double crochet. In each of the next two double crochet: 1 slip stitch.
8. Repeat rows 6 and 7. The underlined part of row 7 has to be done 1 extra time in this row. So you do that twice on every side. If you would increase with more rows, every time you do so you have to do this 1 time extra.
9. If the square is big enough you do a row of single crochet on each side. In the 1-chain-openings you do 1 single crochet as well. In every corner you do: 1 single crochet, 1 chain stitch, 1 single crochet. Fasten off when you're done.
En dan nu het op elkaar naaien. Hieronder zie je een rij foto's. De uitleg staat onderaan.
Now the sewing part. Below you see a row with pictures. Scroll down to see the text that goes with the pictures.
1. Je hebt twee squares gehaakt. Je hebt nu katoen nodig en een naald. 2. Leg de squares met de goede kanten naar elkaar toe op elkaar. Je hebt dus aan beide kanten de binnenkant aan de buitenkant zitten. 3. Je kijkt aan de zijkant tegen de rij vasten aan. Elke vaste bestaat uit twee lusjes, dus als je twee vasten op elkaar legt zie je vier lusjes. 4. Je steekt je naald door de buitenste twee lusjes. 5. Dus niet door de binnenste. 6. En ook niet door alle vier de lusjes. 7. Als je de draad alleen door de buitenste lusjes haalt gaat het er zo uitzien aan de andere kant. 8. En als je dat aan drie kanten zo doet (voor het tasje) ziet het er zo uit.

1. You made two squares. Now you need cotton and a needle. 2. Place the squares with the right side on top of eachother. So on both sides the inside is on the outside. 3. You look at the row with single crochet you did on the edge. Every single crochet has two loops, so if you place two single crochet on top of each other you see four loops. 4. Pull you needle through the two outer loops. 5. So not through the inner loops. 6. And not through all four loops. 7. If you pull the yarn through the outer loops only, your work will look like this on the other side. And if you do this on three sides (for the bag) it looks like this.
