Crochet Toddler Shirt - Free pattern

Als je me de laatste dagen op Instagram hebt gevolgd, dan heb je gezien dat ik aan het experimenteren was met MillaMia Aran garen, een heel mooi garen uit Zweden. Het is 100% wol (extrafine merino) en voelt daarom reuzezacht aan. Het eerste wat daarom in me opkwam was om een trui te maken. Het truitje hierboven heeft een kleutermaat (ongeveer 25,5 cm breed en 24 cm hoog). Het patroontje is gratis hier te downloaden. Als je het bestand download ontvang je een PDF-document met een patroon in US terminologie, UK terminologie en een Nederlandse versie. Alles staat dus in 1 document.
Ik gebruikte een haaknaald 4mm. Het garen kun je hier bestellen. Ik gebruikte de kleur Stone (202) en had drie bollen nodig. Let op: er is ook een dunnere variant van dit garen beschikbaar. Dat kun je uiteraard ook gebruiken voor dit patroon, maar het formaat wordt dan uiteraard wel anders.
De verzendkosten (klik hier) zijn 7,50 euro. Bestel je voor meer dan 50 euro, dan betaal je helemaal geen verzendkosten. Kortom: bestellen in het buitenland hoeft helemaal niet duur te zijn. En het wordt ook nog eens snel en leuk verpakt bezorgd.

If you followed me on Instagram the past few days, you have probably seen that I've been experimenting with MilliaMia Aran yarn, a very lovely yarn from Sweden. It's 100% wool (extrafine merino) and it is incredibly soft. So the first thing that came to mind was to make a sweater. The sweater above was made in a toddler's size (about 25,5cm wide and 24cm high). You can download this pattern for free if you click here. If you download the PDF-document you will get a pattern in US terms, UK terms and in Dutch. So all in one document.
I used a crochet hook size 4mm. You can order the yarn here. I used the color Stone (202) and I needed 3 balls for the sweater. Please  note: there is also a Sport version of this yarn (crochet hook size 3.25mm). You can use that as well for this sweater, but the size will be different of course.

Baby Vest - Free Pattern

Sinds het Haakfeestje van Draad en Praat bij Knottenwol had ik nog steeds twee prachtige bollen Lana Grossa Berlin Softness liggen. Een heel mooi zacht garen van prachtige kwaliteit. Ik zat al een tijdje te dubben wat ik er van zou maken. Totdat ik bedacht dat dit garen vast heel geschikt is voor een babyvestje. Ik vond dit patroon, maar voor dit garen had het de nodige aanpassingen nodig. Daarom heb ik een aantal dingen aangepast (zoals de mouwtjes) en heb ik stokjes vervangen door halve stokjes. En zo zijn er nog een paar dingetjes anders. Het is een heel eenvoudig patroon, ook voor beginners. Ik gebruikte twee bollen Lana Grossa Berlin Softness en dat vind je onder meer hier. De maten zijn als volgt:

Hoogte (gemeten van onder tot de boord boven) 24,5cm.
Van uiteinde mouw naar uiteinde andere mouw: 36,5cm.
Van oksel naar oksel: 28cm.

Since the crochet party from Draad en Praat at Knottenwol yarn shop I still had two balls of lovely Lana Grossa Berlin Softness. A very lovely soft yarn from gorgeous quality. I had been thinking about what to make of it for some time. And then I thought it's probably very suitable for a baby sweater. I found this pattern, but for the yarn I'm using it needed a couple of adjustments. So I changed a few things (like the sleeves) and I replaced the double crochet stitches for half double crochet stitches, and a few other things. It is a very easy pattern, also for beginners. I used two balls of Lana Grossa Berlin Softness. If you live outside The Netherlands you can order for instance here. The size of this vest is as follows:

Height (measured from bottom to top) 24,5cm.
From sleeve end to sleeve end: 36,5cm.
From armhole to armhole: 28cm.

Toys for Romania

Sweaters, skirts and dresses for Romania

Jullie hadden nog altijd een update tegoed van alles wat ik dit jaar heb ingezameld voor Roemenie. Het is opnieuw een enorme stapel geworden! Dit jaar niet alleen veel knuffels, maar ook heel veel dekentjes en mutsjes en nog veel meer. Dit is het totaal:

22 dekens in verschillende formaten

Het is een enorme voorraad geworden en zoals jullie zullen begrijpen was mijn collega er ontzettend blij mee. Als je hier klikt kom je in een Flickr-album met foto's van alles wat ik heb ontvangen. Helemaal onderaan dit bericht zie je hetzelfde foto-album langskomen. Ik wil alle haaksters nogmaals enorm bedanken voor alle hulp!
Mijn collega is op 2 januari met een groep andere mensen naar Roemenie vertrokken. Hij heeft me foto's van het uitdelen gestuurd en de mensen die hebben meegehaakt stuur ik vandaag een mailtje met die foto's. Jullie zullen begrijpen dat de kinderen ontzettend blij zijn met hun nieuwe knuffels. Het is op de foto's duidelijk te zien dat de mensen in het gebied waar mijn collega was in schrijnende omstandigheden leven. Ik vind het onvoorstelbaar dat er nog zoveel armoede is zo dicht bij huis is.
Overigens was dit het derde jaar dat ik dit inzamel en ik wil zelf ook zo ontzettend graag eens zien waar jullie haaksels nu precies naartoe gaan. We zijn dus op dit moment aan het kijken of ik volgend jaar mee kan zodat ik zelf jullie gehaakte spulletjes uit kan delen. Hoe dat verder laat ik je natuurlijk weten. Een fijne avond gewenst!

I still owe you an update about everything that I collected for Romania. Again it was a huge pile of lovely crochet items. This year I did not only receive toys, but also lots of other things. This is what I received:

It was a huge pile and a lot of boxes and as you can imagine my colleague was so very happy with it. I really would like to say thanks again to everyone that helped.
My colleague went to Romania on the 2nd of January with a group of other people. He has send me some pictures that I will send to everyone that has sent in toys. As you can imagine the children were so very happy with their new toys. On the pictures you can see that the people are very poor in the area where my colleague handed out toys. It is completely incomprehensible that this is so close to home.
As you know this was the 3rd year that I collected toys and I've mentioned before that I would love to see where all toys are going. So we are currently discussing the option of me coming along to Romania next year. That way I can hand out toys myself. I'll keep you updated about that! Have a lovely evening!

Music Star

Ben ik de enige die het echt vreselijk vindt om gehaakte dingen weg te geven? Niet omdat ik ze liever zelf hou hoor, dat is het niet. Het is zo dat altijd heel bang ben dat ik iemand er niet blij mee maak. En als ik op kraamvisite ga, dan ben ik altijd bang dat het dan over mijn haaksel gaat, terwijl het over de nieuwbakken baby moet gaan. Noem het een rare afwijking maar zo zit ik nou eenmaal in elkaar. Maar morgen wordt dat anders. Dan ga ik op visite bij Felix. Felix is nog geen maand oud en ik haakte deze muziekster speciaal voor hem. Ik stuurde de moeder van Felix al eerder een foto met een sneak preview, dus om 'm nou niet te geven is ook zo gek. Dus morgen ga ik een zelf gehaakt kadootje weggeven. Ik hoop dat Felix en zijn moeder er blij mee zijn. :-) Het patroon van deze ster vind je hier. Ik maakte deze ster met Phildar Phil Coton 3.

Am I the only one who hates giving away handmade crochet gifts? Not that I would like to keep them all myself, that's not it. It's just that I'm afraid someone might not like my gift. And when I go visit a newborn baby, I'm afraid that they will talk about my crochet work, while I think we should just talk about the lovely new baby. Call it weird, but that's just me.
But tomorrow this will change. I'll be visiting Felix. Felix is less then a month old, and I made this star especially for him. And as I've already sent the mom a photo with a sneak preview some time ago, it would be totally strange not to bring the star with me. So I'll be giving away a handmade gift tomorrow. Free Christmas Tree Pattern

In 2011 plaatste ik dit gratis patroonje van een hele eenvoudige kerstboom. Toen maakte ik 'm met Drops Paris en een haaknaald 4mm. Gisteren heb ik 'm opnieuw gehaakt, nu  met Lammy Hawai en een haaknaald 5mm. Het patroontje vind je hier. De sneeuwvlokjes kocht ik bij Dille & Kamille. Ik wens jullie een fijne zondag!

In 2011 I posted this free pattern of a very simple Christmas tree. Back then I made it with Drops Paris yarn and a crochet hook size 4mm. Contributing to a new book

Doordat ik het afgelopen jaar veel in de studieboeken heb gezeten waren alle haakideetjes ook een beetje naar de achtergrond verdwenen. Ik wist de laatste tijd soms echt even niet wat ik moest haken. Uiteindelijk verzin ik heus wel iets hoor, maar het ging niet meer zo gemakkelijk als voorheen. Alsof ik even vergeten was hoe het moest. Nu kreeg ik vorige week opeens een mail van een Amerikaanse uitgever. Of ik twee dingen wil ontwerpen voor een nieuw boek. Daar zeg ik geen nee tegen :-) de ideeen schoten meteen door mijn hoofd, en ik was opeens weer terug waar ik vorig jaar ook was voordat ik aan mijn studie begon: vol plannen en ideeen. Nu nog even de tijd vinden om alles op tijd af te ronden. :-) Ik hou jullie op de hoogte van hoe het verder gaat. Ik heb er ontzettend veel zin in! Het patroon van dit kussen vind je hier.

Because I've spent most of my time studying last year most crochet ideas somehow faded to the background. Lately I had moment when I didn't know what to crochet. In the end I always have some nice projects somewhere, but it wasn't as easy as before. As if I had forgotten how it goes. That all changed when I received an email from an American book publisher last week. They asked if I was interested in contributing to a new book. Ofcourse I didn't say no to that :-) The ideas popped up immediately and it was all of a sudden like I was back where I used to be before I started studying: full of plans and ideas. Now all I need is finding the time to do it all :-) I'll keep you updated about the new book, I'm very much looking forward to this! The pattern of this pillow is available here.

Another cat

Ik haak zelf natuurlijk ook mee voor de inzamelactie voor Roemenie (klik hier). Dit weekend heb ik een kat gehaakt. Ik haakte 'm al eerder, maar toen met een andere kleur. En de neus van die kat ziet er ook net anders uit. Klik hier om naar dat blogbericht te gaan.
Ik haakte deze kat met slechts 1 bol Lammy Hawai, een haaknaald 5 mm en een klein restje garen voor de sjaal. Als je geen Lammy Hawai kunt vinden, dan kun je ook Phildar Aviso als alternatief garen gebruiken. Het is een supereenvoudig patroon (klik hier), maar helaas alleen in het Engels beschikbaar. Gebruik je een vertaalschema, dan kom je er vast uit.
Wil je ook nog mee haken voor Roemenie? Stuur me dan even een berichtje en dan leg ik je uit waar je het naartoe kan sturen. Je kunt ook dekentjes, mutsjes, sjaals of andere gehaakte spulletjes insturen, maar omdat de vrijwillgers het uit gaan delen aan kinderen heb ik in mijn eerste oproepje alleen om knuffels gevraagd. Maar alle andere spulletjes zijn ook meer dan welkom!

I made this cat with just 1 ball of Lammy Hawai yarn, a crochet hook size 5mm and scraps of yarn for the scarf. If you can't find Lammy Hawai you can also use Phildar Aviso for this pattern. It's a super easy pattern (click here).

Giant Owl Pattern

Is dit niet schattig? Deze hele grote uilen zijn gehaakt met Ribbon XL. Klik hier om nog meer foto's te zien op de blog van de maakster. Die blog is sowieso erg de moeite waard. Wel in het Frans, maar de plaatjes alleen al zijn een bezoekje waard. Het patroon is helaas alleen in het Frans verkrijgbaar, en volgens mij ook alleen maar te bestellen als je in Frankrijk woont (klik hier). Wel jammer, maar wie weet wordt het nog eens in andere talen vertaald.
p.s. dankzij een behulpzame volger weet ik nu dat het patroon in een boek staat dat hier verkrijgbaar is in het Frans.

Granny shawl

Toen ik laatst in Delft rondliep kwam ik in een winkeltje waar ik wel vaker kom. Ik vond er deze geweldige sjaal. Hij is gehaakt van granny squares en wat zou ik graag het patroon willen hebben. Nou ja, eigenlijk hoeft dat niet meer want een tweede heb ik niet nodig natuurlijk. :) Ik ben er heel blij mee! Hij is gemaakt van heel erg zacht garen en de kwaliteit is heel erg goed.

When I walked around in Delft lately I ended up in a shop where I'd been before. They sell this gorgeous scarf. It is crocheted of granny squares and I would love to have the pattern. Oh well, ofcourse I don't need a second one. :-) I'm really happy with it. It's made out of very soft yarn and the quality is really good.

Hero en de draak

Wat een leuk boek! Dat is het eerste wat door me heen gaat als ik Hero en de Draak voor me heb liggen. Als ik door het boek blader vallen me een aantal dingen op. De bladzijden van het boek zijn gemaakt van heel stevig papier. Handig, omdat het ook een voorleesboek is. Het boek begint met een uitgebreide uitleg over verschillende haaksteken en materialen die je kunt gebruiken.
Daarna begint het verhaal, en behalve dat ik kan zeggen dat het me aan een sprookje doet denken, zal ik er niets over vertellen want het moet natuurlijk wel spannend blijven! :-) In het boek komen twaalf figuren voor, en die kun je allemaal haken. Een draak, een vos, een hond, een kat en nog veel meer. En natuurlijk Hero, de hoofdpersoon van het boek. De meeste patronen beginnen met het haken van een magische ring. In het begin van het boek staat heel duidelijk beschreven hoe je die maakt. De patronen zijn helder uitgeschreven. Ik vind het een erg leuk boek. Het idee om een voorleesboek te combineren met het haken van de knuffels uit het verhaal vind ik heel erg origineel. Kortom: een mooi boek wat echt een leuke aanvulling is op al bestaande boeken. Het boek is hier verkrijgbaar.

What a lovely book! That's what comes to mind when I have the book Hero en de Draak (Hero and the Dragon) in front of me. When I go through the book a couple of things stand out. First of all: the pages of the book are made out of lovely thick paper. That's really handy, because you can read the story in the book as a bed time story to your kids. The book starts with an explanation on how to crochet and what materials to use.
After that, the story begins. Besides the fact that it reminds me of a fairytale, I won't tell anything about it so you can read it yourself. In the story you will meet twelve individuals, and you can crochet them all. A dragon, a fox, a dog, a cat and a lot more. And ofcourse Hero, the main character of the book. Most of the patterns start with making a magic ring. In the beginning of the book you will find a clear tutorial on how to make a magic ring. The patterns are very clear and I can say I really like the book. I really love the idea of combining a book that you can read for kids with crochet patterns that tell how to crochet the toys that are in the story. So in short: it's a lovely book that really is an addition to all crochet books that are already here. You can buy the book here.

Granny Bag

Omdat ik deze tas zo mooi vind en ik toch nog een aantal bollen katoen van de Zeeman had liggen ben ik aan de slag gegaan. In een avond haakte ik 7 squares, en in totaal moest ik er 24 hebben. De squares haken erg snel, en omdat ik een haaknaald 5mm gebruik werden ze ook mooi groot. Maar toen ik eenmaal zo ver was om de tas in elkaar te zetten vond ik de squares toch wel erg groot. Te groot voor een tas eigenlijk. En toen bedacht ik me opeens dat ik al heel lang een heel groot kussen heb liggen (72x72cm), en opeens wist ik het: ik ga een mooie kussenhoes maken voor dat kussen. Dat betekent wel dat ik nog even door moet haken, want ik heb nu niet 24 squares nodig maar 50.
In de hoeken haakte ik trouwens in tegenstelling tot het patroon 2 lossen in plaats van 3. Dat vond ik iets mooier, zeker omdat ik met een 5mm haaknaald haak en ik de gaatjes niet te groot wil hebben. Ik kan niet wachten tot het kussen af is, en mijn kat ook niet want die heeft het kussen al in bezit genomen zoals je op deze foto op Instagram kunt zien.

Because I love this bag a lot I decided to start making it. I still had some yarn from the Zeeman-shop so in an evening I made 7 squares. I needed 24 for this bag, but the squares are easy to make. Because I'm using a 5mm crochet hook they became pretty big. Actually, they became too big for a bag. And that's when I remembered that I have a very large cushion in my closet (72x72cm), and all of a sudden I knew: I was going to make a cover for it with these squares. I do need to make some extra squares now, because I need 50 squares for the cover instead of the 24 I already made.
By the way, in the corners I did 2 chain stitches in stead of 3. I thought it looked better, especially now that I'm using a 5mm crochet hook and I don't want the holes to be too big. I can't wait until it's finished, and as you can see my cat can't wait either as you can see on this picture on Instagram.

Schanulleke

Sommige patroontjes zijn zo leuk dat je echt heel blij wordt dat je ze toevallig tegen het lijf liep. Het patroontje van Schanulleke is zo'n patroontje. Ik las vroeger altijd de Suske en Wiske en kon altijd eindeloos verdwijnen in zo'n enorme oranje stapel. Dit patroontje is ontworpen door Miriam van de blog Birdie Haakt. Een blog waar je echt even een kijkje moet nemen want er is nog veel meer leuks op te vinden. Zo ook dit hele mooie patroontje van Paulus de Boskabouter.

Some patterns are so cute that I get really excited when I stumble across them on the internet. This is Muffin, the doll from Suzy (from Spike and Suzy), and you can find the pattern here. I used to read Spike and Suzy when I was younger and I could disappear for hours in the huge orange pile of books. This pattern was designed by Miriam from the blog Birdie Haakt. A blog that you should check out, because she has so many lovely patterns. Like this pattern from Paulus de Boskabouter (a figure from a Dutch tv-show).

Amigurumi Babydieren Haken - Giveaway

Ken je het boek Amigurumi Babydieren Haken van Amigurumi Patterns al? Het ligt hier voor me en als ik het niet al had zou ik het zeker op mijn verlanglijstje zetten. In het boek vind je een hele grote verzameling patroontjes. Het zijn 12 families (zie de foto hieronder) en de ene familie is nog schattiger dan de andere. In totaal staan er 25 patroontjes in het boek. Ik vind ze allemaal leuk, maar natuurlijk heb ik ook een favoriet. De hertjes vind ik geweldig. Maar de kangoeroe is ook erg leuk. Ze komen van over de hele wereld, maar het was erg leuk om te zien dat er ook een Nederlandse ontwerper (Zabbez) aan het boek bijgedragen heeft.

Have you seen the book Amigurumi Baby and Parent Animals by Amigurumi Patterns? It's on my desk in front of me and if I didn't have it I would certainly add it to my wishlist. You will find a huge collection of patterns in this book. There are 12 families (see the picture below) and every family is incredibly cute. In total you will find 25 patterns in the book. I like them all, but ofcourse I have a favourite. I love the deer, but the kangaroo is very cute as well. And what about the butterfly? On the last pages of the book you can read short stories about the designers. They come from all over the world but ofcourse I was happy to see that one of them is from The Netherlands (Zabbez).

Toys for Romania

Weet je nog hoe ik vorig jaar en het jaar daarvoor knuffels inzamelde voor Roemeense kinderen? Ook dit jaar ga ik weer knuffels inzamelen. De knuffels gaan mee met een groep mensen die elk jaar voedsel, kleding en knuffels uitdeelt aan mensen die moeite hebben om rond te komen. De knuffels komen dus goed terecht, dat kun je bijvoorbeeld zien op deze foto.
Hier lees je wat ik in 2013 verzamelde, hier lees je wat ik vorig jaar verzamelde. Vind je het ook leuk om mee te haken? Stuur me dan een mailtje. Crochet Party

Vorige week was het eindelijk zover: het haakfeestje georganiseerd door Lisanne van Draad en Praat en Knottenwol. Ik had er erg naar uit gekeken want ik was al eens eerder op een haakfeestje van Lisanne geweest, en dat was zo ontzettend leuk! De vorige keer heb ik zoveel leuke en creatieve haaksters ontmoet, en ook dit keer beloofde de deelnemerslijst weer veel goeds. Voor mij was het dit keer ook heel erg dichtbij, want het feestje was bij Knotten en die winkel ligt op loopafstand van mijn huis. Dus stipt om twaalf uur was ik bij de winkel. Achter de winkel van Knotten ligt een prachtige workshopruimte, en die was door Francis (de eigenaresse van Knotten) en Lisanne helemaal gezellig gemaakt met (natuurlijk) heel veel mooie haakprojecten uit de winkel van Francis. En er lag een enorme berg wol van Lana Grossa waar we mee aan de slag mochten. Ik ben begonnen met Lala Berlin Hairy, wat een heel erg pluizig garen is. Ik dacht dat het wel lastig zou zijn om mee te haken, maar het viel reuze mee. Het enige wat je niet moet doen is: uithalen en opnieuw beginnen. Dan gaat het garen al snel in de knoop en is het einde letterlijk en figuurlijk zoek. Het was niet alleen leuk om er zelf mee te haken, het was vooral ook erg leuk om te zien wat anderen maakten. Ik zag kleurwissels, sjaals, cols en een paar mensen zijn van plan er een vest mee te haken. Ik was zelf zo druk met haken en praten dat ik gewoon vergeten ben om foto's te maken, maar gelukkig kun je het via Instagram allemaal nog meebeleven. Als je de hashtags #lanagrossahaakparty of #garenproeverijknotten gebruikt om te zoeken dan vind je hele leuke foto's van het garen en de middag.
Toen ik naar huis ging kreeg ik nog een geweldig tas met heel mooi garen mee en een stapel prachtige Lana Grossa boeken om uit te haken of om inspiratie mee op te doen. Kortom: de komende tijd ben ik druk met uitvogelen wat ik met dat mooie garen ga doen. Oh ja, op de foto hierboven zie je een mooi garen wat in de tas zat. Het is Lala Berlin Softness van Lana Grossa. Het is heel mooi zacht garen in een hele mooie lichtroze kleur. Ik ga er een sjaal van maken en ik zal jullie zeker laten zien hoe het er uit ziet als het af is. Een fijne zondag allemaal!

Last week the long expected Crochet Party, organised by Lisanne from the blog Draad en Praat en the yarn shop Knottenwol took place. I had been looking forward to it for a long time because I had been on a Crochet Party of Lisanne before and that was so much fun! I met a lot of creative crocheters at the previous party, and when I checked the list of invitees this time I was super excited.
This time it was also very close to home for me, because the party was at Knottenwol, a yarn shop within walking distance from my house. So at twelve o'clock sharp I was at the store. Behind the shop of Knotten there is a lovely workshop area, and Francis (from Knotten) and Lisanne made it a lovely cosy place with (ofcourse) a lot of crochet projects from the shop of Francis. Besides that there was a huge pile of yarn by Lana Grossa and we were invited to make some lovely crochet projects with that yarn. I started with Lala Berlin Hairy, which is a very fluffy yarn. I thought it would be difficult to work with but it wasn't at all. There's just one thing you'd better not do with this yarn: pull it out and start over again. That's when the yarn turned into a huge knot so make sure to get a good pattern before you start. Not only was it fun to crochet, I really enjoyed to see what others were making. I saw color changes, scarves, cols and some people were planning to crochet a vest. I was so busy crocheting and talking that I simply forgot to take pictures, but fortunately you can still check out some pictures of this afternoon via Instagram. If you use the hashtags #lanagrossahaakparty or #garenproeverijknotten, you will find lots of nice pictures of the yarn and the afternoon. When I went home I got a huge bag with really nice yarn, and a pile of beautiful Lana Grossa books to crochet from or to get inspired with. So during the next few weeks I'll be busy figuring out what to do with that beautiful yarn. Oh, I almost forgot: on the picture above you can see a beautiful yarn what was in the bag. It's Lala Berlin Softness of Lana Grossa. It is very beautiful soft yarn in a beautiful pink color. I'm going to make a scarf of it and I will surely show you how it looks when it is finished.
