Crochet in 2021

In the beginning, I loved to crochet during these corona times. I also started blogging more and I actually enjoyed the energy I had from being on the road less. But gradually that started to change. Before, I used to sit at my home computer a lot to do some blogging, looking up crochet patterns and just getting inspiration. But now that I work mostly at home my computer has suddenly become a 'work thing'. And the table I used to sit at to crochet has suddenly becomes some sort of office table. So in the evening, I don't really feel like opening up my computer at all anymore. And I don't want to crochet at a table that I'm working at during the day. Occasionally I walk over to the couch with a box of yarn and then I crochet some rows of a big granny square blanket. But sometimes the box just stays next to me and I just put it away at some point not having done anything with it. I do think it's a shame, because I always got so much pleasure out of crocheting. So last night I picked up a couple of books that I ordered last year and hadn't made anything from yet. They are Crochet Wreaths & Garlands by Kate Eastwood, Cute Amigurumi Animals by Eleonore and Maurice and Sweet Crochet Friends by Khuc Cay. I did get excited again while looking at all the pretty pictures and have now started on a pattern from Eleonore and Maurice's book. I wonder if I'm the only one whose crochet rhythm has changed. Do you crochet more? Or less? Or have you found a completely different hobby? In the meantime I continue to crochet and I hope that the nice feeling of crochet will stay for a while.

  1. I know exactly what you mean, although I am mostly a knitter. I can see that I have less posts on my blog, although when I started I used to put more general craft on or things I was doing with my children. Inspiration for patterns used to come very easily, but now I feel that I will probably only write 4 or 5 in a year. It is strange, as I have much more idea about how to do it than back when I started. I know I am not a very quick knitter, but I have been working on the same arm of a cardigan for 2 weeks. I think in the main lockdown last year, and this one, it was very hard not to think, well there is always tomorrow, so what is the urgency.

    Fijne dag.

    Lieve groetjes,
    Emily

  6. I completely understand how you feel! I have a full time job (I am an ESL teacher) and I have been teaching online since the start of covid, which means I am glued to the chair for the biggest part of the day. However, crochet is like therapy for me. I cannot wait to end my classes, detach from the strains of the day and just sit in my armchair / sofa, unwind and design new patterns. I have been very productive this past year, and my crochet rhythm has changed for the better. Of course, there are days when I don't feel like touching my hooks, but I don't let my imagination and creativity rest. On such days I just fuel on other people's creativity, draw sketches and dream about new projects and designs. I am sure you'll get your crochet mojo back soon! Hugs!

  7. I promise you are not alone! I work from home now too only on my two blogs, but I feel like all I do is computer work, and hardly get in any crocheting, whereas I used to always find tons of time to crochet and do my computer work. It's frustrating, but something I am working on to find new places to feel joy in crocheting - like an outside area I am fixing up. Best wishes!

    Lieve groet,
    Akkelien

  9. I am glad that you are inspired by your new books, and have found some enthusiasm for crocheting again. It is hard when our work environment 'takes over' our home. Can you take your crocheting outside, for a short break during the day? I am trying (unsuccessfully as of yet) your carrot pattern as I hope to make a set of garden themed coasters for my daughter's birthday.
